How We Built Melody Genie: A Case Study in Shipping AI Products Fast

The problem we wanted to solve
Generic AI lyric tools — and there are dozens of them now — produce text that sounds like it was written by a committee. You ask ChatGPT to write a Drake-style verse and you get something that uses the word "vibes" four times and has zero specific cultural references. You try LyricStudio or Freshbots and the rhyme schemes are formulaic, the slang is generic, and the output reads like every other AI lyric.
The reason is simple: most lyric generators are large language models with a one-line prompt. There's no underlying model of how a specific artist actually writes. That works for novelty. It does not work for songwriters who need bars they can record and release.
We wanted to build something that did the opposite — analyze how an artist actually constructs songs, and generate lyrics in that exact style. The technical name we settled on for this is Style DNA.
What Style DNA actually does
Style DNA is a quantitative profile extracted from 14 to 20 real songs per artist. For each artist, the system extracts:
- Vocabulary fingerprint — typically 3,500 to 5,000 unique tokens, weighted by frequency. This captures preferred slang, signature phrases, and word-class distributions (Drake uses "blessings" 14× more than the rap baseline; Bad Bunny uses "perreo" in 41% of songs).
- Rhyme scheme dominance — the artist's tendency toward AAAA, ABAB, AABB, or freeform patterns, with confidence intervals.
- BPM range — the tempo at which the artist's flows actually land.
- Slang lexicon — region-specific vocabulary (Medellín reggaeton vs. Puerto Rico reggaeton are completely different vocab sets).
- Signature ad-libs — the "yeah," "skrrt," "ay," and other vocal accents that define recognizability.
- Theme distribution — what percentage of songs deal with money, relationships, struggle, hometown, etc.
- Bar starters and punchline formulas — the structural moves the artist uses to open verses and land closers.
Once we have the Style DNA profile, generation is conditioned on it. The engine is Claude Haiku 4.5, which is fast enough for real-time generation and good enough at instruction-following to respect the style constraints. The result is lyrics that don't just gesture at an artist's style — they reproduce the actual mechanics.
Seven tools, one platform

3. Artist DNA Mixer — blend two or three artists with custom percentages. 50% Drake + 30% Feid + 20% Travis Scott produces something that doesn't exist in nature: bilingual punchlines with melodic hooks and Houston textures. This was the feature that went viral on TikTok in February.
4. Auto-Lyric (Hum to Flow) — record yourself humming or freestyling. The system extracts your BPM, phrase length, and syllable patterns, then writes lyrics that match your cadence. For songwriters who think melodically before lyrically, this changes the workflow entirely.

ChatGPT can technically write lyrics in any language, but without Style DNA conditioning, the output is generic. Suno generates audio, which is a different product category. The 15-language bet

Of our 40+ pre-analyzed artists, less than half are English-language. This made organic growth in non-English markets dramatically easier than it would have been with an English-first product retrofitted later.
